Baseball Players Don’t Know How to Fight
I’ve been a baseball fan for some 14 years, and one thing has been made perfectly clear to me.
Baseball players cannot fight.
I’ll never forget when the San Diego Padres were playing the Chicago Cubs. Padres pitcher Chris Young got into a fight with Derrek Lee. Here you have one guy who’s 6′5″ matching up against a guy whose 6′10″. The two had a very sad attempt at a fight with Young and Lee each missing fists.
The latest example of baseball players trying to fight and being unsuccessful was Richie Sexson. Sexson is 6′8″ and instead of just trying to fight Kason Gabbard, he threw his freaking helmet at the guy. Honestly, what possesses someone to throw their helmet at another building? I can understand in the heat of the moment going after a pitcher because you believe they threw at your head. But good God people, learn how to throw a punch. I know this isn’t MMA or pro wrestling, but I’ve seen schoolyard fights that were better then how MLB players fight with each other.
Here’s hoping next time a baseball player decides to fight, they watch some Chuck Liddell or Tito Ortiz beforehand. Otherwise, just clear the benches and stare at each other like good little boys.
